Where you live

Halal food is the default, not an exception. Prayer rooms are on every campus and in every mall, and a full meal at a local shop costs RM 8–15.
Getting around
Kuala Lumpur runs on trains, buses and cheap ride-hailing. A student pass keeps monthly transport around RM 100–200.

Student visa, step by step from Lebanon
Every international student pass in Malaysia goes through EMGS. Here is the whole journey from your offer letter to the sticker in your passport.
1. Get your offer letter
2 – 4 weeks after applyingApply to the university and receive a conditional or unconditional offer letter. Nothing visa-related can start before this.
2. EMGS application
Submitted within days of accepting the offerEvery international student pass in Malaysia goes through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). We submit it with your university: passport pages, photos on a white background, certificates and transcripts, plus the health declaration.
3. Pay the EMGS and visa fees
Same stage as the applicationEMGS processing, insurance, medical screening and the student pass sticker are paid together. Budget roughly RM 1,600 – 2,500 in total depending on level and insurance; the EMGS fee calculator gives the exact figure for your country and course.
4. Visa Approval Letter (VAL)
Usually 4 – 8 weeksEMGS and Malaysian Immigration issue your VAL. Do not book a flight before it is in hand.
5. Single-entry visa at the Malaysian Embassy in Beirut
A few working daysWith the VAL you apply for the single-entry visa at the Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut. Book the appointment early — bring the VAL, passport, offer letter, photos and the fee.
6. Arrival and airport clearance
On arrivalFly into Kuala Lumpur with your VAL, offer letter, EMGS medical documents and proof of funds. The university (or CedarsEdu) meets you and completes airport clearance.
7. Post-arrival medical and student pass sticker
First 2 – 4 weeksWithin the first week you do a local medical check at an EMGS-approved clinic, then hand your passport to the university to have the student pass endorsed — usually valid for one year and renewed each year.

English language requirements
Whether you need IELTS depends on your level and your field — not on your nationality.
Foundation / Diploma
Most private universities accept your school English grade or their own placement test. IELTS 5.0 – 5.5 where it is asked for.
Bachelor
Typical requirement is IELTS 5.5 – 6.0 (TOEFL iBT 46 – 60). Many private universities and branch campuses waive it after an internal English test.
Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law
IELTS 6.0 – 6.5 is normally compulsory and rarely waived. Plan the test at least three months before you apply.
Master / PhD
IELTS 6.0 – 6.5, or a letter from your previous university confirming the degree was taught in English.
- A letter from your Lebanese school or university stating that instruction was in English is accepted by a good number of private universities.
- If your score falls short, you can enter an Intensive English Programme on campus (usually 1 – 3 levels, 8 weeks each) and move into the degree after passing.
- Arabic-language schooling is not a barrier — it only changes which universities we shortlist for you.
- IELTS is available in Beirut through the British Council and AMIDEAST; book six to eight weeks ahead.

Do I need IELTS to study in Malaysia?
Many private universities and branch campuses accept their own English placement test instead. Some public universities and medicine programs do require IELTS — usually a 6.0 or 6.5. We tell you which route avoids the test in your case.
Is a Malaysian degree recognised in Lebanon and the Gulf?
Yes. Programs accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) are recognised, engineering degrees fall under the Washington Accord, and branch-campus graduates receive the UK or Australian certificate itself.
How much money do I need to show for the visa?
You need to prove you can cover the first year — typically tuition plus around RM 20,000 – 25,000 of living costs. We prepare the financial file with you.
When are the intakes?
Most universities have February/March, June/July and September/October intakes. Apply three to four months ahead; medicine and dentistry fill up much earlier.
Can I work while studying?
